  • Answer each question based on the issue at hand.
  • Use your results to guide decisions, not justify conclusions.
  • Review the guidance below to deepen your understanding.

Problem Framing Examples

Start with the question pattern, then add your topic, domain, or category.

  • what evidence is missing from my science hypothesis
  • who needs to be aligned for internal teams before launch
  • whether now is the right time to act on a market expansion
  • what risk is most important in this capital investment
  • what dependency could block progress in this operations change
  • whether this decision is worth pursuing for this strategic initiative
  • what would make the decision clearer for leadership approval
  • which customer signal matters most for the product roadmap

When to Use It

  • You are facing a complex or ambiguous business issue.
  • Decision stakes are meaningful.
  • You have some data, but clarity is low.
  • You need to decide whether more analysis, alignment, or data is required.

When Not to Use It

  • The issue is routine, low-impact, or operational.
  • You already have a clear answer and consensus.
  • You are looking for financial forecasting or operational metrics.
  • You need legal, tax, or highly specialized technical advice.

How Scoring Works

  • You answer questions across key dimensions.
  • Each dimension is scored from 1 to 5.
  • Scores are combined into a Structural Clarity Score from 0 to 100.
  • Higher scores indicate greater clarity and confidence in the decision pathway.

What the Score Means

Your score reflects how clearly your issue can be understood by examining the structure around it, not just the event itself.

Higher scores indicate greater clarity and confidence in the decision pathway.

How to Use the Result

  • Use the score to guide the level of rigor, time, and resources you invest.
  • Review dimension breakdowns to see where clarity is strong or weak.
  • Use the Service Pathway Guide below to determine next steps.
