A Covariant Toy Field Theory for Phase-Coherent Operational Anti-Gravity
This theoretical paper asks whether operational anti-gravity can be formulated as a local, controllable reduction or inversion of the response of matter to an existing gravitational field without invoking negative mass, gravitational shielding, repulsive antimatter, or reactionless propulsion.
Earlier Phase-Coherent Inertial Modulation work treated synchronization-dependent inertial variation phenomenologically. The present paper replaces that phenomenological coupling with an explicit generally covariant toy effective field theory. The model contains a complex coherence order parameter ΨC, its conserved current JCμ, a hypothetical massive vector mediator Bμ, the Einstein-frame metric gμν, and a universal physical metric g̃μν related to gμν through a quadratic disformal term.
Variation of one action yields the Einstein, coherence-field, mediator, and matter equations. Because the full action is diffeomorphism invariant, on-shell conservation applies to the total stress-energy tensor, while the source, mediator, and matter sectors may exchange energy and momentum internally. The model also possesses an exact general-relativistic off-state branch: when the prepared coherence current and mediator vanish, the physical and Einstein-frame metrics coincide.
In the weak static limit, the model predicts an additional acceleration proportional to the gradient of the squared mediator amplitude. When the mediator response is local compared with the programmed source profile, the result reduces to a derived counterfield law proportional to the spatial gradient of the squared coherent-current density. The previously free coherence-to-lapse coefficient is replaced by a combination of the mediator mass, source coupling, and universal matter-coupling scale.
An adversarial consequence of the microscopic construction is experimentally important: reversing the sign of the coherence current alone does not reverse the metric response because the physical metric depends quadratically on Bμ. Instead, the counterfield reverses when the spatial coherent-current-density profile is mirrored. This produces a five-state protocol: OFF, COUNTER, MIRROR, SCRAMBLED, and GLOBAL-SIGN.
A valid signal must produce one common cancellation parameter κ across support force, free-fall acceleration, atom-interferometric phase, and gravitational clock gradient. It must reverse under profile mirroring, disappear when coherence is destroyed at matched gross energy, and remain unchanged under global current-sign reversal. Failure of these linked predictions falsifies the mechanism over the tested range.
The accompanying reproducibility package contains the frozen equations, symbol ledger, dependency graph, dimensionless one-dimensional Proca solver, unit tests, generated source and mediator profiles, five-state protocol, falsification record, and validation artifacts. The numerical calculation verifies the mathematical operator response only; it is not experimental evidence.
No anti-gravity effect is claimed to have been observed. The mediator is hypothetical, the laboratory mapping from measured coherence to ΨC and JCμ is unresolved, and no phenomenologically allowed engineering-scale parameter point is claimed. The next required step is a quantitative parameter-space analysis against equivalence-principle, preferred-frame, particle, astrophysical, clock, and multimessenger constraints, followed by a blinded five-state experiment if a viable region survives.
